In the 73rd Assembly districts most significant
endorsement to date, the New York City chapter of The National Organization
for Women (NOW) announced their support today for Democrat Kirk Swanson.
Kirk Swanson has spent years fighting for
the issues that matter to women. As a State Assemblymember, Kirk will
be one of the most vocal activists for equal rights. There is much work
to be done in the years ahead, and we could have no better ally than Kirk
Swanson working with us in Albany, said NOW-NYC President
Matthea Marquart.
As the East Sides next State Assemblymember,
I will fight for womens rights on two fronts. The first will be
to aggressively push for new legislation. I will work tirelessly with
NOW-NYC in this effort. The second front is to ensure better enforcement
of current laws. Many of the laws on the books in New York State protect
women in principal, but without sufficient funding for enforcement, these
laws do not accomplish their stated goals. I look forward to working with
NOW-NYC to move New York State in the right direction, said
Swanson.
Kirk Swanson has built a widespread coalition of support for his State
Assembly campaign. In addition to the National Organization for Women-NYC,
Kirk has been endorsed by New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer,
former Mayor David Dinkins, and several of the most prominent members
of the New York State Assembly and New York City Council. Kirk Swanson
has also been unanimously endorsed by the New York State AFL-CIO, unanimously
supported by the New York City Central Labor Council and designated by
the Working Families Party making him the only Democratic candidate
who also has a third party line for November. Swanson also has the support
of over four dozen major public and private sector labor unions.
Kirk Swansons campaign is focused on the need for reform in New
York States government. Swanson is the only candidate who has made
specific proposals addressing this need. His Ten Year Plan For Reforming
New York States Government is the foundation of Swansons substantive,
issues-based campaign for the Upper East Sides Assembly seat.
